Info For Parents

This can be a stressful time for both children and parents and the last thing we want is for a child to feel overwhelmed or under enormous pressure. A team approach is always the most successful, especially when we all adopt an attitude of calm encouragement, steady support and open communication. Progress comes when your child is willing to do this extra work and is engaged in the process. When we all work together with a positive and reassuring attitude, children thrive.

It is very tempting to stop listening to your child read once they are independent readers, but if you can manage to set aside some time each week to do so then it gives us a wonderful opportunity to develop accurate reading, learn vocabulary in context and hone inference skills.

Parents are also involved in marking and reviewing some maths and language homework - answers are provided to keep it quick. I will always mark writing and written comprehension work and this way we can maximise teaching time in lessons.

I believe that 18 - 24 months is the optimum time to prepare your child for these exams. Please do not start this process too early as it is counter-productive. I do not tutor children before year 4.
