This can be a stressful time for both children and parents and the last thing we want a child to feel is enormous pressure. A team approach is always the most successful especially when parents adopt an attitude of calm encouragement and support.
It is very tempting to stop listening to your child read once they are independent readers, but if you can manage to set aside some time each week to do so then it gives us a wonderful opportunity to develop accurate reading, learn vocabulary in context and hone inference skills.
In my process parents are also involved in marking and reviewing some maths and language homework - answers are provided to keep it quick. I will always mark writing and written comprehension work and this way we can maximise teaching time in lessons.
I believe that 18 - 24 months is the optimum time to prepare your child for exams. Please do not start this process too early - it is counter-productive and I will not tutor children before year 4.
Please let me know if you need extra resources, as I have a wealth of brilliant resources which I am always happy to share.
