The Programme
Year 4 - The Foundation Year
Starting in Year 4 gives your child the strongest possible foundation and builds confidence.
Skills are built steadily from the outset - reading, comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and
mathematical thinking - with writing woven in from the start.
Children who join in Year 4 also benefit from a review at the end of that year, when we can
assess progress honestly and agree the right direction for Year 5.
- Capped at four children
- One hour per session - long enough to cover meaningful ground, short enough that
children leave energised rather than tired - Homework set weekly to build and consolidate skills
- Autumn start
- In person in Kingston
Year 5 - The Core Preparation Year
Year 5 sessions are longer and cover the syllabus in greater depth - maths, English,
comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and creative writing. Children joining at this stage learn to
work at pace, make strong progress and are well positioned for the exam. Preparation is
targeted at the specific demands of the schools each child is aiming for.
- Capped at four children
- 75 minutes per session
- Maths includes topics not covered at school but often tested at 11+
- Homework set weekly to build and consolidate skills
- Mock tests and actionable feedback
- Interview preparation
- Starting September of Year 5, continuing into Year 6
- In person in Kingston
One to One
I keep some sessions for one-to-one tuition. These suit children joining later in their preparation
or those who need focused work on a specific area.
- Session length to suit your child’s needs
- Available from Year 4
- In person in Kingston
Writing
Writing is a core part of my programme and taught throughout because that is the only way to
produce real improvements. The children who perform best in the writing tasks are almost
always those who have been writing regularly and receiving careful feedback throughout their
preparation. It is also, beyond the exam, one of the most valuable skills a child can develop -
and it is the part of my teaching that I enjoy most.
“I feel very lucky to have found Samantha. In only eight months she helped transform my
daughter’s English and helped her improve her maths.”
- A, Kingston
“Samantha is a wonderful tutor. She is caring and helpful and even though we are in a group
session she still manages to cater to everyone’s needs. She not only helped my older daughter
through 11+ but her support also extended to me too.”
- S, Kingston
“My daughter loved her group sessions. The groups are small which allows everyone to feel
heard and valued. I wasn’t sure if this was possible in a group session - but it really suited her,
firing up her competitive spirit and making her grow in confidence.”
- T, Kingston
